Lopez recently gained significant attention for managing Team Venezuela to victory in the World Baseball Classic. This success highlighted his managerial acumen, which he has cultivated over a long tenure with the Astros organization.

Lopez's journey with Houston began in 1999, starting in scouting and player development. He managed within their minor league system for over a decade, achieving accolades such as player development man of the year and leading teams to league championships. His transition to the majors saw him serve as first base coach under Dusty Baker, culminating in a World Series win in 2022.
