A Mississippi judge has ruled in favor of Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, granting him a preliminary injunction that awards him an extra year of eligibility. Judge Robert Whitwell stated that the NCAA had ignored its own rules in denying Chambliss' waiver request.
The 23-year-old player has been in college for five years but was only healthy enough to play in three seasons due to medical reasons. Chambliss began his college career at Ferris State in 2021, redshirting his first year and missing 2022. He then led Ferris State to a national championship before transferring to Ole Miss.
At Ole Miss, Chambliss had a standout season, completing 66.1% of his passes for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also contributed significantly with his rushing, adding 527 yards and eight touchdowns. The team achieved a school-record 13 wins and made their first College Football Playoff appearance, ultimately losing to Miami in the semifinals.
