A profound influence on his decision was his late friend and former Ole Miss player, Corey Adams. Butler and Adams were high school teammates at Edna Karr High School and had always discussed attending the same college.
Adams tragically passed away in July 2025, never having played for the Rebels. Butler cited his close relationship with Adams and a good connection between coaches as key factors in choosing Ole Miss.
Butler is expected to be integral to the Rebels' revamped defense for the 2026 season, aiming to help the team reach the College Football Playoff. During his two seasons at Georgia Tech, he recorded 34 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one interception in 26 games.
