Sandell, Anderson Lead Elite Sooners Special Teams

Oklahoma's special teams unit, led by coordinator Doug Deakin, is aiming for a repeat of its 2025 success as fall camp progresses. The team boasts one of the nation's best kickers in Sandell, who earned the Lou Groza Award last season and also handles kickoffs.

A close competition is unfolding at the punter position between Miller and Ulrich, with both vying for the starting role. The long snapper position is solidified by the highly reliable Anderson, entering his fourth year as a starter.

New faces like transfer running back Lloyd Avant and freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers are expected to contribute to kick returns. Wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III remains a key option for punt returns, though Rogers is also a contender. This experienced unit returns all its production from the previous year, crucial for supporting both the offense and defense.

Under head coach Brent Venables, the focus on special teams improvement has yielded significant dividends. The continued excellence of this unit is anticipated to be a major factor in the Sooners' pursuit of their goals in the 2026 season.
