However, if he remains as a designated hitter, Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is positioned to win the award.

Crow-Armstrong has presented a compelling MVP case, batting .279 with 27 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases, boasting a .912 OPS over 123 games. Ohtani, in comparison, has hit .292 with 27 home runs, 74 RBIs, and a .935 OPS in 112 games, along with a 1.79 ERA from his 14 pitching starts before his injury.

Ohtani has commenced a throwing progression, with a potential return to pitching targeted for September. This would allow him a few weeks to prepare before the playoffs, potentially starting with a limited number of innings.
