Buckeyes Face Ranked Virginia in Surprise Showdown
14 Feb
Summary
- Ohio State plays ranked Virginia on Valentine's Day.
- This is OSU's latest non-conference game since 1987.
- Virginia boasts a top-tier defense and shot-blocking.

The Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team is set for a unique Valentine's Day clash against the No. 15 Virginia Cavaliers. This game, scheduled for Saturday night in Nashville, is the first time Ohio State has played a non-conference opponent this late in the season since 1987.
Coach Jake Diebler intentionally scheduled a high-caliber opponent like Virginia in February, aiming to provide his team with NCAA Tournament-like experience. This strategy, however, means the Buckeyes are forgoing a five-day break they could have had between conference games.
Virginia enters the contest on a strong run, having won 10 of their last 11 games. They are recognized for their defensive prowess, consistently limiting opponents' scoring, three-point shooting, and two-point efficiency. The Cavaliers also feature one of the ACC's most formidable frontcourts, with two of the conference's top shot blockers on their roster.
