Nkunku Returns: Leipzig Boosted for Schalke Clash
31 Oct
Summary
- Christopher Nkunku is back after recovering from an adductor injury.
- Christoph Baumgartner is available after scoring two goals recently.
- Maxime Estève, Assan Ouédraogo, and Marc Guiu are still unavailable.
RB Leipzig has been bolstered by the return of key forward Christopher Nkunku, who has recovered from an adductor problem and is available for Saturday's Bundesliga match against Schalke 04. He resumed full training on Friday and has been cleared to travel, though his integration will be gradual.
Christoph Baumgartner is also set to be available, following his impactful performance in the DFB-Pokal where he scored twice to secure a comeback victory. Despite his recent success, Baumgartner is expected to start on the bench as Leipzig manages his return from a lengthy injury absence.
The team will, however, continue to be without defender Maxime Estève due to a knock, alongside Assan Ouédraogo and Marc Guiu, who are still recovering from their respective injuries. Estève's absence reduces defensive options following a demanding cup tie.
Despite these absences, the availability of Nkunku and Baumgartner significantly enhances Leipzig's attacking depth. This provides coach Martín Demichelis with more options to influence the game, particularly against a defensively solid Schalke side that has struggled offensively at home.
