Previously, such violations were handled by NHL executive vice president Colin Campbell. However, under the new structure led by George Parros, Player Safety will manage most discipline. Campbell is expected to retain authority over violations involving coaches or team executives, while Commissioner Gary Bettman will continue to address significant off-ice conduct issues.
