NFLPA Races for New Director Amidst Leaks
28 Feb
Summary
- Three finalists have emerged for the NFLPA executive director position.
- Interim director David White is among the candidates.
- Former NFLPA chief strategy officer JC Tretter is a surprise contender.

The NFL Players Association is actively pursuing a new executive director, with the names of three leading candidates reportedly leaking despite the union's efforts to maintain secrecy. The finalists are interim executive director David White, former NFLPA chief strategy officer JC Tretter, and American Conference commissioner Tim Pernetti. NFLPA president Jaylen Reeves-Maybin acknowledged a comprehensive search with highly qualified candidates but declined to comment on specific names.
This search follows the abrupt resignation of former executive director Lloyd Howell after a series of scandals. Howell had previously hired JC Tretter into a newly created chief strategy officer role, leading to speculation about Tretter's ambitions. Tim Pernetti, who has no direct labor union experience, has a background in sports management and a controversial past as Rutgers' Athletic Director.
Other notable individuals, including former NFLPA president Domonique Foxworth, were reportedly considered but did not advance. Foxworth expressed disappointment, signaling lingering concerns about the union's decision-making processes.
