Tush Push Debate Ends: NFL Owners Stay Silent
26 Mar
Summary
- NFL owners meetings in 2026 will not feature Tush Push proposals.
- The Tush Push play's usage and success rate have decreased.
- Eagles' Tush Push success dropped from 81% to 63.6% in 2025.

The NFL owners meetings, commencing Sunday in Phoenix, will notably lack any proposals concerning the "Tush Push," a play that dominated discussions last year. The Competition Committee has confirmed no new rules will be introduced regarding this specific play. Chairman Rich McKay indicated that while concerns about pushing remain, the overall usage and success rate of the Tush Push have decreased compared to traditional quarterback sneaks. This decline in play frequency and effectiveness has led to less discussion within the football community.
Last year, a proposal from the Green Bay Packers to ban the Eagles' signature play was narrowly defeated. The vote, initially tabled in March 2025 and ultimately failing in May 2025, required 24 votes to pass but received only 22. Discussions reportedly shifted from player safety to aesthetics. The Eagles themselves experienced a downturn in the play's success, converting only 63.6% of Tush Pushes in the 2025 season, a significant drop from over 81% in their Super Bowl-winning 2024 season. Head coach Nick Sirianni acknowledged the need to either regain dominance with the play or develop new strategies for crucial third-down and red-zone conversions.
