McCoy's Draft Slide: Injury Plunges Top Talent Down Boards
25 Apr
Summary
- Top cornerback McCoy, projected first-round pick, still undrafted.
- A 2024 ACL tear and subsequent surgery caused his significant draft slide.
- Despite a strong Pro Day showing, teams remain cautious about his knee.
The 2026 NFL Draft has seen a surprising turn of events for highly-touted cornerback McCoy. Once considered a first-round talent, McCoy has fallen past the second day of the draft without being selected. This unexpected slide is largely attributed to a knee injury sustained in 2024, which required surgery and led to him missing the entire 2025 season.
Despite a promising Pro Day performance where he clocked a 4.37-second 40-yard dash, signaling his recovery, teams appear hesitant. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that concerns about McCoy's knee longevity are present, despite his perceived ability to impact a roster immediately. This situation presents a potential steal for a team willing to take a chance on his talent, though the circumstances of his continued availability remain a draft-day mystery.
