Trafford Lean Towards Leeds Over Newcastle

Newcastle United's primary goalkeeping target, James Trafford, is reportedly nearing a move to Premier League rival Leeds United. Talks are underway between Leeds and Manchester City for the 23-year-old England international, who is said to prefer a transfer to Elland Road.

This news comes as a setback for Newcastle, who had revived their interest in Trafford after failing to sign him previously. While Trafford remains Newcastle's preferred choice, the club is actively pursuing other goalkeeping options. These include Parma's Zion Suzuki and Brighton & Hove Albion's Carl Rushworth.

Trafford played 17 games for Manchester City last season, participating in their Carabao Cup and FA Cup victories. Prior to rejoining City, he impressed during two seasons with Burnley, earning promotion and conceding only 16 goals in 46 Championship matches.

This potential transfer would mark the second consecutive summer Newcastle misses out on its top goalkeeper target. The club recently signed Ewen Jaouen, a 20-year-old viewed as a long-term prospect, while Nick Pope remains the current number one, though his future is uncertain.
