NZ Cricket: T20 WC Prep Squads Named for India Tour

New Zealand Cricket has announced its squads for a comprehensive limited-overs series against India, commencing January 11. The tour is strategically designed as a key preparation phase for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka starting February 7. The series features three ODIs followed by a five-match T20I contest, with the latter being particularly vital for the Blackcaps' World Cup ambitions.

The selectors have opted for a balanced approach, recalling several experienced players while also including promising young talent like Jayden Lennox and Tim Robinson. Kyle Jamieson makes a comeback from injury in both formats. However, prominent players such as Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra have been rested to manage workloads and focus on Test commitments, including the World Test Championship cycle.

Mitchell Santner has been appointed captain for the T20I series, emphasizing his return from injury. Michael Bracewell will lead the ODI team. The selectors believe playing in India's unique conditions, characterized by slower pitches and effective spin bowling, will provide invaluable experience for the squad ahead of the global tournament.
