North East Lincolnshire Council has approved plans for five new outdoor padel courts, set to be constructed on the vacant site of the former Jungle Zoo in Cleethorpes. This development marks a new chapter for the location, which has been unused since its closure in 2022. The facility will feature four doubles courts and one singles court, with four courts equipped with rain canopies for year-round play. A clubhouse constructed from shipping containers, along with changing rooms and storage, will also be part of the project. East Coast Padel, a company founded by four friends who already operate a padel club in Hull, will manage the new courts. Local authorities and the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Civic Society have backed the proposal, viewing it as a valuable addition to the resort's entertainment offerings. The zoo site was previously affected by a suspected arson attack in July 2024.
