Young Australian international Nestory Irankunda has departed Watford after a single season to join Portuguese giants Sporting CP. The transfer, described as a permanent deal by the Hornets, sees the 20-year-old forward move to Lisbon, pending international clearance.
Irankunda arrived at Vicarage Road in July 2025, having previously been with Bayern Munich. In his 44 appearances for Watford, he found the back of the net four times. His performance extended to the international stage as well.
For the Socceroos, Irankunda scored five goals in the past season. Notably, he netted Australia's first goal in the World Cup, a significant moment in their 2-0 victory over Turkey. This achievement also marked him as Australia's youngest-ever scorer in the competition.
