Stoke Legend Nello Baldwin Marks 80th Birthday with Stadium Honour

Neil "Nello" Baldwin, a beloved former kit man for Stoke City FC and a former circus clown, is set to celebrate his 80th birthday this Sunday. A weekend of festivities is planned for the community figure, whose inspirational life story was the subject of the 2014 Bafta-winning film 'Marvellous'.

As part of the celebrations, Baldwin will be honored on the pitch at the Bet365 Stadium during Stoke City's match against Watford on Saturday. He shared his pride and happiness in his life achievements and his enduring love for his team.

Baldwin, who grew up with learning difficulties, initially joined the circus after leaving school before transitioning to his role at Stoke City. His former manager, Lou Macari, lauded Baldwin's positive impact and the joy he brought to the club's players. Baldwin also holds a strong connection to Keele University, where his mother worked, and received an honorary degree from the institution in 2013.

Further recognition for his contributions includes the Freedom of Stoke-on-Trent and a British Empire Medal awarded in the 2019 New Year Honours for his community service. Friends describe him as a lifelong, positive presence who is completely free of self-consciousness.
