During Game 4 of the NBA Finals, a heated moment erupted between the Knicks and Spurs in the first quarter. Knicks player Mitchell Robinson was initially called for an offensive foul but, upon review, was assessed a flagrant 1 foul for throwing an elbow at Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.
This contentious play followed a similar incident in Game 3 where Wembanyama shoved Jalen Brunson, a play that many believed warranted a flagrant foul but was not called by the referees.
Knicks guard Jose Alvarado had previously stated that such physical play was not basketball and warned that it would not be tolerated further. The game was also marked by several other controversial foul calls and non-calls against the Knicks early on.
