31 Oct
Summary
- Grizzlies and Rockets lead Western Conference undefeated.
- Reigning champs Knicks struggle in play-in spots.
- Several teams worry about playoff aspirations.
As the NBA season passes its initial week, the Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies are unexpectedly leading the Western Conference, both holding undefeated records. The Grizzlies' strong start is particularly surprising given their projected rebuild status.
Defending champions New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs are showing a 'championship hangover,' currently holding lower seeds in their respective conferences. The Knicks are in play-in tournament positions, while the Spurs are barely clinging to a playoff spot.
Several teams with high playoff expectations are currently struggling. The Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and Utah Jazz are all outside the top ten in their conferences. The Magic and Jazz are dealing with significant player injuries, impacting their performance, while the Heat's defense has been underperforming.
