On November 3, 2025, the NBA and Take-Two Interactive Software announced the launch of a revamped version of the NBA 2K esports league. Led by NBAT2, a joint venture between the two companies, the new NBA 2K League is described as an "innovative entertainment property" that aims to bring together fans, NBA players, and creators in a unique competitive and cultural experience.
The league's CEO, Andrew Perlmutter, has been working to reimagine the league since changes were first announced in July 2024. The new 2KL will feature "original content that showcases NBA players and creators competing against each other in unexpected settings," as well as online and in-person tournaments and a first-of-its-kind open-ladder competition that allows fans to earn spots on teams and participate directly.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick emphasized the goal of serving consumers and providing "great entertainment" at the intersection of basketball, NBA 2K, and general entertainment. The league has also named popular YouTuber and "2K" fan Jesser as the "honorary commissioner," tasking him and his team of celebrity guests with guiding the league's direction.
The inaugural season of the new NBA 2K League will kick off on November 4 with "MyPLAYER Mayhem," a creator and player-led competitive reality series that showcases the personalities, fanbases, and rivalries of the participants. Beginning November 16, fans can also sign up for the "Next Fan Up" open ladder competition to earn a chance to represent their favorite NBA teams.
