Conte Shakes Up Napoli Squad for Coppa Italia Clash
3 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Napoli to rotate squad against Cagliari in Coppa Italia.
- Key players rested due to injuries and upcoming Juventus match.
- Youngsters Lorenzo Lucca, Antonio Vergara, and Giuseppe Ambrosino to start.
Napoli manager Antonio Conte is poised to implement significant squad rotation for today's Coppa Italia Round of 16 encounter with Cagliari. This strategic decision stems from a combination of persistent player injuries and the pressing need to prepare for an imminent Serie A clash against rivals Juventus. The team will see several players who have had limited playing time this season, including Lorenzo Lucca and Pasquale Mazzocchi, stepping into prominent roles.
Key figures such as Scott McTominay and Stanislav Lobotka are anticipated to be rested, paving the way for Eljif Elmas and the 22-year-old Antonio Vergara to anchor the central midfield. In defense, a three-man unit featuring Juan Jesus, Sam Beukema, and Mathias Olivera is expected. The attacking front will likely be led by the 22-year-old Giuseppe Ambrosino, accompanied by Matteo Politano and Lucca.
The match, scheduled to kick off at 18:00 CET at the Stadio Maradona, is one of three Coppa Italia fixtures taking place today. Football enthusiasts in the UK and Ireland can catch the action on Premier Player, while US viewers can tune into Paramount+. Football Italia will provide live updates.
