Garrett's knee had been a persistent issue, even before the Rams' Week 1 defeat against the San Francisco 49ers. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year's struggles were evident as he failed to record a single tackle in that season opener. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee shortly thereafter.
