Bowlers Blamed? Kartik Says India's Bowling Woes Run Deeper
1 Nov
Summary
- Bowlers are easiest scapegoats when team struggles, argues Murali Kartik.
- India's bowling unit conceded 195 runs in 18 overs against New Zealand.
- Dropped catches and inconsistent bowling combinations plague the team.

Former India spinner Murali Kartik has voiced that bowlers are often the most convenient target for blame when a team falters. This sentiment arises after India conceded 195 runs in just 18 overs to New Zealand in the fifth T20I at Seddon Park, Hamilton, concluding the series. Despite India setting a target of 192, their bowlers struggled, with five out of six used options having an economy rate over 10.
Kartik highlighted that blaming bowlers is easy, but the issue is deeper, citing dropped catches and inconsistent bowling combinations as significant problems. He noted that India has conceded high scores multiple times this year, suggesting a pattern. Ambati Rayudu, on the same panel, emphasized the critical absence of Jasprit Bumrah, stating that replacing him requires two bowlers, which necessitates compromising on batting depth for more specialist bowlers.
Rayudu believes that an over-reliance on all-rounders without a proper bowling attack leads to these issues. He argued that a skilled bowler creates pressure and wicket-taking chances, even on flat wickets, unlike less experienced bowlers. The focus for India now shifts to the upcoming five-match ODI series starting on November 4 at Eden Park in Auckland.
