Mominul Sharma: Bangladesh's All-Rounder in the Making?
22 Oct
Summary
- Mominul Islam is honing his left-arm spin bowling skills.
- His improved bowling aims to provide respite for frontline bowlers.
- Test series against West Indies is scheduled for October 28.
Mominul Islam is actively working on developing his left-arm spin bowling capabilities. While most of the Bangladesh Test squad is in the UAE for an ODI series, Mominul and Shadman Islam have been engaged in extended net sessions.
Guidance from coach Mohammad Salahuddin is helping Mominul refine his bowling. The team management views his potential contributions as a means to give frontline bowlers, like Taijul Islam, necessary rest and introduce strategic variety.
This focus on bowling also offers an alternative to off-spinner Miraz when he has bowled extensively. Test captain Najmul Hossain encouraged Mominul to concentrate on his bowling, which he has embraced with enthusiasm.
Mominul's last bowling appearance in a Test match was in 2023 against New Zealand, where he achieved his best figures. He is preparing for the busy Test schedule, starting with the two-match series against the West Indies on October 28.
