MLBx, Major League Baseball's fast-paced 3-on-3 baseball competition, is set to make its inaugural appearance in South Asia with an event in Mumbai, India, on Saturday. This event, previously known as MLB Home Run Derby X, seeks to bridge the gap between baseball and cricket, a sport immensely popular in India.
The Mumbai event will feature a blend of talent from both sports. Former MLB stars like Jake Arrieta and Adrián González will compete alongside renowned Indian cricketers such as Shardul Thakur and Suryakumar Yadav. Athletes Unlimited Softball League standouts will also participate.
The players will be divided into four teams named after historic MLB franchises: Cubs, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Yankees. They will compete in a knockout-style tournament utilizing a three-inning format designed for exciting power hitting and dynamic defensive plays.
MLBx: Mumbai is envisioned as a celebration of sport and culture, incorporating live music, interactive fan experiences, and local culinary twists. Following this event, MLBx is scheduled to travel to Fukuoka, Japan, on November 7.
