Kernels Ready to Seize Opportunity on Field

The Mitchell High School football team commenced its fall camp on Monday, August 11th, with a renewed sense of purpose. Head Coach Pat Larson expressed that the 2026 Kernels are "light-years ahead" of previous seasons, highlighting a higher level of commitment and optimism among the players.

Larson noted that this year's team is focusing on intricate aspects of the game, such as blitz pickup, much earlier in their preparation. This early focus on detail is a testament to the team's advanced understanding of new schemes.

Player leadership has been a key factor, with veteran players setting a strong example and holding teammates accountable. Larson emphasized his intention to coach the team rigorously, pushing them to higher standards.

After missing the Class 11AA postseason for four consecutive seasons and enduring a cumulative record of 6-30 in that span, the Kernels are determined to change their trajectory. Players from successful junior varsity and C-team squads are expected to bolster the varsity roster. The team opens its season at home against Brookings on August 28th, with high hopes for a successful year.
