Twins Fire Manager Rocco Baldelli After Disappointing Season

On September 29, 2025, the Minnesota Twins announced the firing of manager Rocco Baldelli, ending his 7-year tenure with the team. Baldelli's dismissal comes after a second straight disappointing season for the Twins, who finished with a 70-92 record, the 4th-worst in Major League Baseball.

The Twins faltered in June and failed to mount any momentum in July, leading to a major selloff at the trade deadline. The team went 19-35 after the deadline, with only the Colorado Rockies faring worse over the final two months. This extended funk has seen the Twins go just 82-119 over their last 201 games, a .408 winning percentage.

Attendance at Target Field has also swooned, with the Twins finishing the season with just over 1.7 million tickets sold, their lowest number in a non-pandemic season since 2000. Fans have directed much of their frustration towards the team's ownership, the Pohlad family, who put the franchise up for sale last year before deciding to keep control and bring on new investment groups.

Despite the team's recent struggles, Twins president Derek Falvey praised Baldelli's leadership, integrity, and commitment to the organization. Baldelli was hired in 2019 to replace Hall of Famer Paul Molitor, with Falvey citing his adaptability to the data-driven direction of baseball strategy and his communication skills.
