- Yastrzemski overcame career doubts, earning his major league spot with the Giants.
Outfielder Mike Yastrzemski has officially signed a two-year contract worth $23 million with the Atlanta Braves, as announced on Wednesday. Yastrzemski, 35, has carved out a notable career, particularly excelling against right-handed pitchers, where he ranks highly among major league players.
His path to consistent production was not without challenges. Yastrzemski nearly abandoned his career during a slow climb through the minor leagues. However, a trade to the San Francisco Giants in 2019 provided a crucial opportunity, leading to his major league debut at 28 and subsequent success, including an eighth-place finish in MVP voting in 2020.
While Yastrzemski is a strong platoon outfielder known for power and plate discipline, he demonstrates a significant split against left-handed pitching. Primarily a right fielder, he brings a solid arm and modest speed to the Braves' lineup.
