Mikaela Shiffrin achieved a historic milestone on Wednesday, tying the record for the most women's overall World Cup skiing titles with her sixth championship. The American skiing sensation secured this achievement during the final race of the season, a giant slalom held in Hafjell, Norway.
Shiffrin's latest triumph places her in the company of Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Pröll, who also amassed six overall titles. Moser-Pröll's victories were spread across the 1970s and late 1970s, while Shiffrin has achieved hers in multiple segments since 2017.
This season has been particularly stellar for Shiffrin, who also claimed Olympic gold in the slalom at the Milan Cortina Games. Her dominance extends to World Cup events, where she won nine out of ten slaloms this season. Furthermore, Shiffrin now boasts an unparalleled 110 World Cup victories across all disciplines, far exceeding the previous record held by Ingemar Stenmark.
