Recruiting Shake-Up: Michigan Loses 2027 Pledge
29 Apr
Summary
- Darrell Mattison, a four-star safety, decommitted from Michigan.
- Mattison initially committed to Michigan in March.
- This is the first decommitment for the new head coach.

New Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham has faced a recruiting setback with the decommitment of Darrell Mattison, a highly-touted four-star safety from Chicago. Mattison was the initial pledge for the 2027 class under Whittingham's leadership, having committed to the Wolverines on March 24. His commitment, however, was short-lived.
Following a recent visit to Ann Arbor for the annual spring game, Mattison informed the media of his decision to back off his pledge to Michigan. This decommitment leaves Whittingham with five commitments for the 2027 class. Notably, three of these commitments were secured by the current staff, while two others, Peter Bourque and Tristan Dare, had previously decommitted after Whittingham's appointment.
