Beltran, who was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame earlier this year, chose to have a Mets cap on his plaque. The upcoming induction ceremony is scheduled for July 26 in Cooperstown. Beltran expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating the Mets hold a special place in his heart.
During his seven seasons with the Mets from 2005 to 2011, Beltran played 839 of his 2,586 career games. He earned five of his nine career All-Star selections while representing New York. Beltran also continues his association with the team in a front office role as a special assistant.
With this upcoming retirement, Carlos Beltran becomes the ninth player in Mets franchise history to have his number retired. He will join other legendary figures such as Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza in this distinguished club. Outfielder Tyrone Taylor, who currently wears No. 15, will be assigned a new number.
