Mercedes has confirmed its interest in acquiring a minority stake in the Alpine Formula 1 team. The Silver Arrows are reportedly considering a purchase of the 24% shareholding currently held by the US investment firm Otro Capital.
Alpine is majority-owned by the Renault Group, which holds a 76% stake. Flavio Briatore, an executive advisor for Alpine, stated that negotiations are active with several potential investors, including Mercedes and a group associated with former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.
A Mercedes spokesperson confirmed they are being kept informed of developments, emphasizing their role as an engine supplier. Briatore noted that any investment in the 24% stake would not affect the majority control held by Renault.
The prospect of Mercedes holding stakes in two Formula 1 teams has drawn attention, though Audi's team principal sees no governance conflict. Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls are both fully owned by Red Bull.
