Despite Medvedev not being at his absolute best, Norrie, the British No. 2, failed to find his rhythm and made numerous unforced errors throughout the contest. Medvedev broke Norrie's serve five times, which proved to be the decisive factor in the match.
Earlier this year, Norrie had claimed one of his best victories by defeating Medvedev in five sets in the first round of the French Open. However, he was unable to replicate that performance in Beijing, as Medvedev controlled the majority of the match.
With the victory, Medvedev advances to the last 16 of the China Open, where he will face Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Norrie, on the other hand, has been eliminated from the tournament.
