In a recent development, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has dismissed reports that he refused to be a torchbearer at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The French outlet Le Canard Enchaine had claimed that Mbappe wanted to be the final torchbearer at the Games' opening ceremony but refused a request to be masked.
However, Mbappe took to social media to rubbish these reports, simply responding with "LOL" and stating that he was "just chilling on vacation on the other side of the globe" and had no history with the Olympics, so there was no reason for him to be the last torchbearer.
This comes after Mbappe had expressed his ambition to play in the football tournament at the Paris Olympics last year. At the time, he clarified that the decision was not up to him, as he was still contracted to Paris Saint-Germain, and it would be up to the Ligue 1 club to determine whether he could feature. Mbappe officially joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in June 2024 and went on to score 31 goals in 34 La Liga games in his debut campaign for the Spanish giants.
