Matt Olson Breaks Braves Games Streak Record

Matt Olson achieved a historic milestone on Friday night, passing Braves legend Dale Murphy for the longest consecutive games streak in franchise history. His 741st consecutive game for Atlanta now stands as a testament to his unwavering presence.

This remarkable feat contributes to Olson's overall streak of 875 games, placing him ninth all-time in Major League history. He is notably close to surpassing Cardinals legend Stan Musial for eighth place.

Braves manager Walt Weiss lauded Olson's consistency, emphasizing that maintaining such a streak requires not only availability but also sustained performance. Weiss noted Olson's resilience, citing instances where he played through broken bones.

Olson attributes his durable mindset to his upbringing and the influence of veteran players like Marcus Semien. He distinguishes between playing hurt and playing injured, stating he has only missed games when an ailment prevented him from helping the team win.

Weiss further elaborated that Olson's success stems from a combination of mental toughness, an ideal baseball physique, and a relaxed demeanor. The streak has coincided with Olson's most productive years, enhancing his confidence and freeing him to play his game without the pressure of performance-based lineup inclusion.
