American Coach Makes History in Copa del Rey Final

Pellegrino Matarazzo has made history as the first American manager to guide a team to a major cup final. Real Sociedad secured their spot in the Copa del Rey final by defeating Athletic Club 2-0 on aggregate. They will now face Atletico Madrid in the final.

Matarazzo took over Real Sociedad before the LaLiga winter break when the team was near the relegation zone. He quickly instilled a disciplined pressing style, leading the club to a nine-match unbeaten streak.

Despite a recent cooling of form, Matarazzo's influence remains strong. He previously coached Hoffenheim in Germany and was once linked with the United States Men's national team.

Real Sociedad currently sits eighth in LaLiga, with a chance to qualify for Europe for the third consecutive season. Key players like Goncalo Guedes and Mikel Oyarzabal have been instrumental in the team's success, even with the departures of stars like Alexander Isak.

Looking ahead, Matarazzo could become the first American manager in European competition since Jesse Marsch and David Wagner. Sociedad will face Atletico Madrid again this weekend in a crucial LaLiga match.
