Summary
- Martin Somerville transferred from Florida State to West Virginia.
- Somerville averaged 8.0 points for Florida State last season.
- Florida State added multiple guards, impacting Somerville's minutes.
Martin Somerville, formerly a guard for Florida State, has committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers. This move follows his one season with the Seminoles as head coach Darian DeVries continues to assemble his team.
Somerville, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, played in 33 games during the 2025-26 season. He recorded averages of 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. His previous collegiate stop was at UMass Lowell, where he earned America East Rookie of the Year honors.
His departure from Florida State was anticipated due to the program's numerous backcourt acquisitions. The arrivals of Anthony Robinson II and Kameron Taylor, along with freshmen Martay Barnes and Brandon Bass Jr., significantly reduced the likelihood of consistent playing time for Somerville in the 2026-27 season.
