Josh Naylor delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning, securing a 5-4 victory for the Seattle Mariners against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. This crucial hit prevented the Mariners from being swept in the series.
The Mariners secured the win when Naylor lined a pitch to left field, allowing Cal Raleigh to score from second base. Raleigh had previously hit a solo home run earlier in the game and was instrumental in the game's final play.
The Athletics' seven-game road winning streak came to an end with this loss. They had tied the game in the top of the ninth inning on a powerful 438-foot home run by Nick Kurtz off Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz.
Julio Rodríguez continued his impressive streak by extending his on-base streak to 19 games with a pair of singles. His RBI groundout in the seventh inning had given the Mariners a temporary 4-3 lead.
