The Marian Catholic Fillies have advanced to the District 11 Class 2A championship game following a commanding 59-30 victory over Lincoln Leadership Academy. This win also secures their place in the state tournament.
Despite an early 5-0 deficit, the Fillies regrouped after a timeout, demonstrating strong defense that limited Lincoln Leadership to just seven points for the rest of the first half. Marian Catholic dominated the remainder of the first half, closing with a 28-12 lead.
Juniors Addy Marek and DeAnna Pugh were instrumental in the victory, scoring 21 and 18 points, respectively. A strong start to the second half, including key three-pointers from Brooke Hannis-Miskar, extended the lead. While Lincoln Leadership applied aggressive defensive pressure, causing some Fillies turnovers, Marian Catholic maintained a comfortable margin.
Coach Jeff Onushco expressed satisfaction with the win but noted areas for improvement in ball handling during the second half. The team, which found its rhythm after a slow start and coaching change, is now focused on their upcoming championship rematch against Schuylkill League Division II rivals, Williams Valley.
