Smart Felt 'Disrespected' by Lakers Offer

Marcus Smart has signed a two-year contract with the Houston Rockets, reportedly worth $12.4 million, a move that occurred after his previous season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Smart shared during the Rockets' Media Day that he felt undervalued by the Lakers' free agency offer, describing it as a "disrespect" that did not align with his performance. He indicated a lack of desired security from the team as well.

This offseason saw Smart depart alongside other former Lakers like LeBron James and Rui Hachimura. His new two-year deal with Houston includes a player option for the following summer. Smart expressed that the Rockets offered him the opportunity to earn a "decent-sized paycheck with years on it."

Notably, this move marks the first time in Smart's 12-year NBA career that he will be teammates with Kevin Durant. Smart acknowledged their past on-court battles, particularly his role in defending Durant. He conveyed relief at no longer having to guard Durant and excitement to witness Durant's offensive abilities firsthand. Smart is expected to serve as the backup point guard for the Rockets, supporting star guard Fred VanVleet.
