Final Runway Run at Manston Airport This Year
14 Mar
Summary
- Eight-hour running challenge held for third year at Manston Airport.
- Event is the last before Manston Airport is sold and repurposed.
- Sarah King participates in her 30th marathon for the charity.

For the third year, Manston Airport is hosting an eight-hour running challenge known as Runway Rerun. This event offers a unique opportunity for participants to run the length of the Kent runway or complete as many laps as possible within the allotted time. Organizers describe one lap as a 'slightly long 10k,' with multiple laps equating to a half marathon, marathon, or even an ultra-marathon.
This year's challenge is particularly significant as it will be the last before the airport is sold. A condition for using the runway includes a donation to the local charity, Thanet Disabled Riding School. Organizers Runbelievable Challenges are aiming for a "bigger, better" event in 2027 to further support the school.
Among the participants is 37-year-old Sarah King, who has embraced marathon running since December 2021 after her father's passing. This Manston run will mark her 30th marathon with Runbelievable. King is on a personal quest to run 100 marathons by age 40, crediting the Ballards, race directors, for their unwavering support and the sense of family at their events. She fondly recalls the varied weather conditions of past runs, hoping for better luck this year after enduring a heatwave and a storm in previous events. King strongly encourages newcomers to join, emphasizing the supportive community that ensures no one runs alone.
