Manchester United Breaks Bank to Sign Slovenian Prodigy Sesko

Summary
- Manchester United signs Slovenian forward Benjamin Sesko for up to $99M
- Sesko, 22, is seen as a potential replacement for United's struggling strikers
- United had a dismal 2024/25 season, finishing 15th in the Premier League

As of August 9th, 2025, Manchester United have made a major move to bolster their attacking options by signing Slovenian forward Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old has joined the club on a five-year contract in a deal that could eventually cost United up to 85 million euros ($99 million).
Sesko's arrival comes as United look to recover from their worst Premier League campaign in the modern era. Last season, the 20-time English champions finished a dismal 15th, just three places above the relegation zone, and scored the fourth-fewest goals in the top flight. In an effort to revamp their attack, United have also brought in forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Sesko, who has been compared to former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to his towering 6'5" frame and technical ability, scored 13 goals for Leipzig last season. While his statistics have been modest so far, the young forward is seen as a promising prospect with the potential to lead United's resurgence.
"The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future," Sesko said in the club's announcement. "When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon."
