Man Utd Eyes Newcastle Star for Left-Back Upgrade

Manchester United is actively pursuing Newcastle United's Lewis Hall to bolster their left-back position ahead of the new season. This move comes as Tyrell Malacia has departed as a free agent, and Luke Shaw, the current preferred left-back, has a contract expiring at the end of next season. At nearly 31 years old, Shaw's age necessitates succession planning for the crucial role.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester United has maintained active contact with Lewis Hall's representatives over the past three days, confirming genuine interest. Hall, who fits the age profile targeted by INEOS, is highly regarded and adaptable, comfortable in midfield and on the ball, possessing both pace and defensive capability. He registered one goal and two assists in 47 appearances across all competitions in the 2025/26 season.

However, securing Hall's signature may prove difficult. Romano indicated that Newcastle's willingness to sell depends on the future of Sandro Tonali. Selling both Gordon and Tonali, in addition to potentially Hall, might be considered too much for Newcastle, thus making the deal challenging. United is also expected to focus on midfield reinforcements, having reportedly secured Ederson from Atalanta.
