Man Utd Cracks Down on Ticket Touts: 685 Season Tickets Revoked

Manchester United has removed 685 season tickets as part of a significant investigation into organized ticketing networks and touting. The club's summer crackdown, aimed at ensuring fair ticket access for genuine supporters, has led to widespread criticism from fans and supporter groups. Many innocent individuals reportedly faced potential sanctions during the process.

A prominent supporter group, The 1958, has called for fans to unite against what they term the "season ticket ban fiasco." They are organizing a protest ahead of the upcoming derby against Manchester City, stating "a line has been crossed."

The club's investigation revealed that 464 supporters received reduced sanctions or final warnings, in addition to the 685 season tickets revoked. The club's statement highlighted that bans were issued for significant misuse of the ticketing system for financial gain, specifically targeting organized networks controlling ticket distribution.

United identified 1,617 accounts requiring further review due to unusual activity. Of those whose season tickets were removed, 113 did not respond to information requests, 73 did not appeal, and 499 had their bans upheld by an independent panel. The club acknowledged underestimating the common practice of sharing account credentials, recognizing that some fans might feel unfairly treated.

In response to the controversy, the fan group The 1958 is urging all supporter groups to stand together, demanding clear evidence for bans and sanctions. They emphasize that generations of loyal fans deserve respect and advocate for lifting the bans, calling for "one voice" to "show the evidence."
