Cerebral Palsy No Barrier to Marathon Dream
10 Sep
Summary
- Man with cerebral palsy overcomes walking challenges.
- He is now training to complete a 26.2-mile marathon.
- A large support network aids his ambitious goal.
Brandon Schlauder, a 41-year-old Colorado resident, is on an inspiring journey to run a marathon, a feat once deemed impossible due to his cerebral palsy. Schlauder's condition, which caused deformities and pain, particularly on his right side, required him to think deliberately about every step.
His ability to walk has significantly improved following surgery, allowing him to perform activities he previously could not, including walking backward. This progress has paved the way for his ambitious marathon goal.
Schlauder's training is bolstered by a substantial support system. His longtime friend, Kayln Bonn, will be one of twenty guides assisting him during the 26.2-mile Boulderthon marathon. This community effort includes participation from the fire department and the Achilles group.
Beyond personal achievement, Schlauder and his supporters aim to raise awareness and advocate for individuals with disabilities who may not have a voice.
