Malaysia FA's FIFA fraud appeal denied
5 Mar
Summary
- Malaysian FA's appeal against FIFA ruling failed
- A 350,000 Swiss francs fine remains for the FA
- Seven players banned for one year due to fraud

The Malaysian Football Association's appeal against a FIFA decision has been unsuccessful. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld a ruling that found the association guilty of using false documents to naturalize foreign-born players for the men's national team.
CAS confirmed a fine of 350,000 Swiss francs ($450,000) against the Malaysian FA. Additionally, seven players have received one-year bans from playing matches due to their complicity in the fraud. These players had obtained Malaysian passports and participated in a 4-0 victory against Vietnam in a 2027 Asian Cup qualifier, a result that is now set to be overturned.
The CAS panel determined that the infraction of falsifying eligibility documents was established. While the 12-month ban for players was deemed reasonable, the court did allow them to train and engage in football activities outside of matches until their suspensions conclude. The Malaysia FA admitted to "institutional shortcomings" and acknowledged its potential responsibility for violating FIFA disciplinary rules.
