In the aftermath of UFC 322, where Islam Makhachev became the new welterweight champion, a major talking point was the brawl that erupted before the main card. Makhachev's coach, Javier Mendez, has now provided further details on what led to the altercation.
Mendez explained that Dillon Danis, a controversial figure in the MMA community, had been provoking Makhachev's team. Danis had allegedly shared videos mocking Makhachev and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, in what Mendez described as "questionable" content. This included videos depicting a "relationship-type of brace" between Makhachev and Abdelaziz, as well as Danis making "terrible remarks" about Logan Paul's girlfriend.
Mendez stated that Danis' actions were clearly intended to stir up trouble, saying "You know you are asking for trouble." This ultimately led to Magomed Zaynukov, a member of Makhachev's team, attacking Danis, sparking the brawl.
In the aftermath, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Dillon Danis would never be allowed to attend another UFC event. White had the option to press charges against Danis but decided against it, stating that "This is the fight business man, you know how I feel about this sh**."
