Historic Football Ground Faces Uncertain Future
18 Dec
Summary
- Maidenhead United plans to leave its historic ground, used since 1871.
- The current stadium is considered unfit for purpose by the club's chairman.
- A previous attempt to relocate was blocked due to land use concerns.

Maidenhead United Football Club has re-initiated plans to move from its long-standing home, York Road. The club has played at this site continuously since 1871, a duration that is thought to make it the oldest senior football ground globally still used by the same team.
Club chairman Peter Griffin has expressed that York Road is no longer suitable for the club's needs. Consequently, the National League South team is pursuing a move to a new stadium located at Braywick Park in Maidenhead.
This is not the first attempt by the club to relocate. A previous proposal was withdrawn in 2023 after the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council opposed the release of the proposed site, citing concerns over the reduction of open space.
