Maharashtra Opener's Ranji Debut Marred by Dismissal and Heated Argument
15 Oct
Summary
- Maharashtra opener's Ranji Trophy debut ends in dismissal
- Batsman scored impressive runs in domestic tournaments earlier
- Heated argument with teammate during a practice match

Ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, Maharashtra opener Sarfaraz Khan had shared an Instagram post performing prayers and a pooja, expressing his hopes for the upcoming campaign. However, his Ranji Trophy debut last month got off to a disappointing start as he was dismissed for a low score.
Sarfaraz, who was not selected for the recent home Test series against the West Indies, was looking to prove his worth in the domestic tournament. Earlier in the season, he had made a strong impression, scoring 111, 1 and 66 runs in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. This was followed by a sensational knock of 181 runs against his former team, Mumbai, in a three-day practice match.
Unfortunately, Sarfaraz's Ranji Trophy debut was marred by his dismissal, as he edged a fuller delivery that seamed back, hitting him plumb in front for MD Nidheesh's first wicket for Kerala. The dismissal was a blot on his otherwise impressive start to the domestic season.
Sarfaraz's triple-figure knock in the practice match was also overshadowed by a heated argument with Musheer Khan, the brother of his former teammate Sarfaraz. During the incident, Sarfaraz even swung his bat in an attempt to hit Musheer, although he later apologized to his former teammate.
Despite these setbacks, Sarfaraz will be hoping to bounce back and make a strong impression in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches, as he looks to regain his place in the Indian national team.
