Maaya Rajeshwaran has emerged as a significant talent in Indian tennis, clinching her first professional singles title at the W35 Lagos Tournament in Nigeria. She triumphed over Spain's Celia Cervino Ruiz with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the final.
This victory established Rajeshwaran as the youngest Indian woman to achieve a W35-level singles title, a feat previously accomplished only by Sania Mirza. Hailing from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, born on June 12, 2009, Rajeshwaran began playing tennis at age eight for fitness.
She later transitioned to homeschooling to accommodate her rigorous training schedule at Pro Serve Tennis Academy. Rajeshwaran achieved notable success in the junior circuit, winning multiple ITF junior titles before a breakthrough semifinal appearance at a WTA 125 event.
Further enhancing her achievements in Lagos, Rajeshwaran also claimed the doubles championship alongside Yelyzaveta Kotliar. They secured a comeback victory in the decisive super tiebreak, completing a remarkable tournament where she began as a qualifier.
