Brighton has completed the signing of highly-rated 19-year-old Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic. The transfer is reported to be a club record fee of £46 million, with Vuskovic agreeing to a five-year contract.
This move sees Vuskovic join Brighton as a replacement for Jan Paul van Hecke, who recently transferred to Spurs. Vuskovic previously played once for Croatia at the World Cup and gained significant experience during an impressive loan spell at Hamburg last season.
During his time with the German club, Vuskovic made 30 appearances and scored six goals in the Bundesliga. Brighton's head coach, Fabian Hürzeler, acknowledged Vuskovic's talent but emphasized the need for patience as the young defender adjusts to the demands of the Premier League.
Vuskovic initially joined Tottenham last year from Hajduk Split. His path to regular game time at Tottenham was further challenged by the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi.
